Hi Harry, I am trying to confirm and establish the date and cause of death for William James DUNN, husband to my 1st cousin x4 removed Sarah Ann BIRD DUNN. Family lore has he died 1865. That's all. Do you have a roster and more detail of Co. G, 2nd SC Infantry Regiment? You may want to review my website www.rwphillipsweb.comI am researching my early family pioneers from 1900 back. Sorry that it took so long to reply to this message [as I explained in an email to you]. I had recently had triple by-pass surgery, and there was very little activity on this board.
However, for others, There is, indeed, a W.J. DUNN listed in Roster of the book "A History of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry: 1861-65" by Mac Wyckoff, published in 1994. The book is out of print. I had to get one of the last copies from Wyckoff himself.
It would appear that this IS your cousin's husband, listed as W.J., and was in Co. G of the 2nd SC. He was wounded twice in battle: Antietam & Gettysburg, but died of typhoid fever in a Richmond VA on Aug. 5, 1863, shortly after the Battle of Gettysburg.
